Founded in 1994 by Arthur Tongo, Africa New Music is a non-profit organization with the mission of furthering African arts and culture in Toronto. We achieve this by providing various educational and entertaining programs throughout the city. Our previous activities have included:

  • organizing Black History Month musical events in city schools, wherein students learn of Africa through drums, music, dance and theatre;
  • hosting the annual Festival Bana y'Africa featuring African - a festival incorporating performances by local and international African artists, an African marketplace, and fun and games for the family held at Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto;
  • hosting concerts featuring world-acclaimed African artists such as Papa Wemba, Koffi Olomide, Pape Kale, Loketo, Kanda Bongoman, Show Do Man, Alfa Blondi, Angelique Kidjo, Marianne Makeba, Manou Dibangu, Jimmy Cliff, and more;
  • a recording studio that produces various artists;
  • hosting forums for artists and business to discuss problems and solutions in furthering their work.

Future additions to our activities are comprised of annual African music awards. Thus, Africa House of Music is an essential player in multicultural education and entertainment in Canada as well as in assisting artists and entrepreneurs grow their businesses.
